Exploring The Myths of Botox

Are you thinking about getting Botox treatments, but wonder if they are right for you? Do you think that you will end with a frozen face, unable to smile? Have you seen celebrities that have had Botox treatments and wonder how did they do that?

Well, if you would like to know the truth about Botox treatments, it is best to separate fact from fiction beforehand. Find out the truth about using Botox to diminish lines and wrinkles to maintain a natural, youthful look-read below for the truth about Botox.

Myth Number 1: Botox is a deadly and poisonous toxin

Botox is a cosmetic injection that is safe to use, it is a therapeutic toxin derived from the bacterium called Clostridium botulinum. Botulism is a potentially life threatening form of food poisoning from the same toxin. When injected into the skin as a cosmetic treatment, it safely diminishes wrinkles, crow’s feet and other age related lines on the face.

Myth Number 2: Botox creates an unnatural frozen look that prevents normal facial movement

Botox injections relax the face and prevent facial gestures that may cause wrinkles. If you see anyone with an unnatural expression after receiving Botox treatment, they are more than likely the victim of an unqualified practitioner. The proper use of Botox creates a smooth more youthful appearance, erasing wrinkles and diminishing age lines. It produces natural results and is considered one of the best temporary face lift treatments in the world.

Myth Number 3: Botox fills lines

Botox does not fill in facial lines like a cosmetic dermal filler. It eliminates wrinkles by temporarily relaxing the underlying facial muscles. Botox is usually injected in the top half of the face to diminish wrinkles, lines of the forehead and brow and to smooth away laugh lines. Dermal fillers are used to plump up the lips and to fill in folds in the skin, the results usually lasts for 18 months.

Myth Number 4: Botox is expensive and only for Celebrities

You would be surprise to know the truth about who has received Botox injections. It is quiet likely some of your closet friends and neighbors have added Botox to their beauty treatments. Botox is a completely affordable treatment available to anyone who wants to maintain a youthful appearance with smooth wrinkle free skin.

Botox should only be injected by a licensed and qualified practitioner.

Botox Defense

There was a woman in Vancouver who has been fortunate enough to have the charge of refusing to take a Breathalyzer test thrown out of court. She explained to the judge that she was incapable of blowing into the screening device, as her face had been paralyzed by having Botox injections. She used the Botox explanation when representing herself during her trial on a charge of refusing to take a Breathalyzer test. She had been pulled over after midnight, April 24th and had been requested to take a Breathalyzer test. Having been given multiple chances to blow into the device, but the mechanism failed to register each time.

The woman explained in court that she couldn’t get her lips to form the proper shape to blow into the device because of Botox treatments she had received beforehand. Her Mexican doctor wrote a letter that stated that “when an individual undergoes Botox treatments, their upper lip and mouth area are affected so that they are unable to purse their lips or whistle.” This can last for up to six months and it is very common for Botox patients to be unable to use a straw or wrap their lips around a Breathalyzer device.

A Botox procedure is an injection that inhibits wrinkles by partially paralyzing the facial muscles, and the judge agreed to dismiss the charge for a month. Police have never heard of Botox being used in a defense against drunk driving charges, and they find the excuse very hard to believe.

Nevertheless, it is presumed that claiming to have undergone Botox treatments may be used as excuses in more drunk driving charges in the future. It is one of the most unusual defenses to have been presented to date, and such defenses may actually be legitimate, provided that other women that refuse to submit to a Breathalyzer test have indeed received Botox treatments before being asked to take said test. While there have been interesting excuses brought up as defense in different court cases in the past, this is one of the most unique to have been used to date.

Time to Fight Back

In this ever changing, ever demanding, ever shocking world, it would seem that the one constant is time. More precisely, the terrible damage which time seems insistent on inflicting upon our bodies.

However, despite this, it may well not be all doom and gloom, a new study from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons has given hope to millions of time-ravaged people.  It is normally our genetic-makeup which determines how we age and makes some people feel epoch’s effects faster than others, however the ASPS has now suggested that environmental factors could also be behind people’s aging.

“In this study, we looked at identical twins because they are genetically programmed to age exactly the same, and in doing so we essentially discovered that, when it comes to your face, it is possible to cheat your biological clock.” commented researcher Dr. Bahaman Guyuron, before going onto say:”… we have discovered a number of new factors that contribute to ageing and second, our findings put science behind the idea that volume replacement rejuvenates the face.”  What this essentially means, in laymens terms, is that more scientific reasoning can now be propped-up behind cosmetic surgery and that this, in turn, should encourage more people to undergo treatments.  There are many different treatments which can help an aged-face and it is hoped that this new research will show people that they don’t simply have to give in to their genetics; there is a plumping and tightening helping hand available.

Rather, it would probably be more accurate to say ‘hands’ as there are many different treatments which prospective patients can choose between. There is, of course, Botox, but there are also some newer products on the market such as Juvederm which can be very successful at reducing the appearance of even fairly deep-set wrinkles.  However, these treatments are only temporary and, if we really want to fight back against ageing, then a facelift offers a much more permanent solution. Indeed many retired people are now taking up this option in order to fight back against the genetic ravishes of time!  Volume replacement can certainly make a difference but it isn’t a guaranteed nor a lasting solution. Of course, we should also celebrate old age and the beauty and wisdom that comes with it but we do also need to be able to have the confidence to enjoy our final years!

Downturn Lift

The recession has left all of us pinching the pennies and people are turning away from expenditures which cannot be considered essential. This has left many in the cosmetic surgery industry worried that people may put off having treatments until the economy picks up again.

The industry will gladly welcome the news then, that customers can actually get better value during an economic downturn. It is hoped this message, if put out correctly, will bring in more customers and help the cosmetic industry continue to grow.

The recession has in fact created a “buyers market” according to image enhancement coach Wendy Lewis.  She has suggested that those who want to go under the knife should do some “comparison shopping” in order to ensure that they are getting the best possible deal on their treatment.  It has also been suggested that shoppers may wish to try being slightly frugal, simply having a neck lift instead of a full face lift could save lots of money for potential customers.  Wendy Lewis went on to say that it was “an ideal time for men and women seeking to improve or maintain their youthful image to look at less pricey options”.

Her research has led her to state that more and more top doctors are offering much better value for money in an attempt to get as many new patients through the doors of their practises as possible.  The industry has not been entirely unaffected by the recession however. Lewis did point out that people who were regular Botox enthusiasts were leaving longer between injections. Not only was this saving them money but it was giving them the time to hunt out the best deals and bargains as well. Such tightening of purse strings is something which we can all learn from as we aim to come out the other side of the recession in a much stronger position.

Botox is the procedure which is probably most likely to survive the recession; it offers a cheaper alternative to face-lifts and is also much more widely available than it ever was before. Even dentists are getting in on the action, with one based in Scotland saying he has seen the number of his dental-practise-patients wanting Botox go up and up each year.  As the numbers on the financial graphs continue to droop and drop, the cosmetic surgery industry is hoping it can remain perky and water-tight and avoid the worst effects of the economic tsunami.

Botox Boost

All of us feel down at one time or another and all of us have something we would like to change about our bodies.

For some people, however, this strive towards physical perfection becomes a constant obsession and many people become literally depressed by the way they look. It has now been suggested that cosmetic surgery could offer up a solution to this problem. Sid Gautam of DermaSkin.co.uk has commented: “Botox and dermal fillers show quick results and the change in visual appearance can provide an instant mental lift. People sometimes have hang-ups about their skin, and facial therapies can have dramatic results” More invasive surgeries have much longer recovery times and thus patients have to wait a lot longer to see results; these non-surgical alternatives offer a fast solution to a brand-new you!

Cosmetic surgery is not something which should be entered into lightly but it has long been known to have incredible results in terms of improving patients’ confidence.  It is not an easy solution by any means, having drastic surgery doesn’t just change your body, it changes your entire life as well and thus it can be an incredible strain mentally but, perhaps more importantly, it can be worth it in the long run.  For the more impatient amongst you, who cannot wait for the week it normally takes for Botox to take effect, there are now even faster solutions available. Dermal Fillers are the rising stars of the cosmetic surgery scene and injections of Restylane and Teosyal can have much quicker results than Botox can provide.

None of these non-surgical alternatives are permanent however and thus, if one is wanting a permanent boost to ones confidence and a way to drag oneself out of depression, a more invasive and complex procedure may be required. Recovery times are a lot longer and a lot harder to deal with but, in the long run, you will be left with a much more permanently fabulous and fearless you.  More and more people are now choosing to change their lives for the better and undergo cosmetic surgery; interestingly one of the leading reasons people seek treatment is because of divorce. Cosmetic surgery clearly offers a new start for people and also, if this new advice is to be believed, a way for people to combat the devastating effects of depression. Botox really could boost your life and take years of weight off your mind.

The Warm-Up Act

Botox is a popular cosmetic treatment and is used to treat many different conditions, from crows-feet to baldness,  however because Botox is only a semi-permanent procedure it is now finding a new fan-base in the form of people who are wanting to undergo face-lifts but who don’t want to make the leap straight away.

Botox is being used a quasi-preview procedure for those who are too scared to take the leap into a highly invasive, highly expensive face-lift.  San-Diego dermatologist Dr. Susan Stuart and Dr. Richard Chaffoo, have confirmed this story. “Botox can mimic some of the skin-smoothing effects of facial surgery,” said Dr Stuart. “Patients want a way to test the waters so that they can feel confident revealing their new look in their day-to-day lives,” they have been quoted as saying.

The temporary nature of Botox, used for treating brow furrows and laughter lines, often leads those undergoing the non-invasive injections on to more permanent solution to their quest for younger looking skin. Once patients see the dramatic changes which can be made to their ageing faces, they often feel more confident about the success and the integrity of cosmetic surgery. This confidence is then transferred into the face-lift market which is one of the most successful corners of the plastic surgery market.

Botox is amongst one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the U.K and indeed in the wider world. Kylie Minogue is amongst the celebrities which has been rumoured to have put themselves through the surgical procedure and, as they get older, they may well turn to face-lifts to achieve more lasting results which the needles cannot give. Botox has also been given a boost because of people’s hectic 21st century lives.  Face-lifts might be a better solution but they are incredibly hard to recover from and often people have to take a good few weeks off work. In the current economic climate, when many people are battling to keep hold of their jobs, this just isn’t an option. Botox offers a preview and also offers a stop-gap solution- younger appearances can be gained in the short-term and then, as the effects start to subside along with the worst part of the recession, perhaps more people will come to consider face-lifts as a viable option. One thing is certain, once you have had a taste of looking younger you won’t want to age again!

One Last Makeover

The heartstrings of the cosmetic surgery industry were plucked when one woman’s remarkable story became known.

Lisa Connell was tragically diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour over a year ago and thus decided that, if there was anything that she’d ever wanted to do, she might as well spend the money on doing it now and enjoying herself. Ms. Connell decided to follow her life-long desire to look like her idol Demi Moore and spent around £40,000 on the surgery to achieve this.   The procedures will include a boob job, some Botox and liposuction; the money will come from a wedding fund Ms. Connell’s mum had set aside for her daughter.

Tragically, Ms. Connell is only 29, a terribly young age to be given such devastating news.  She acknowledges that plastic surgery might not be the most conventional of last wishes but she is determined to leave this world looking as fabulous as possible.  Some of the surgery she will be undertaking is to combat the negative effects of her condition- facial surgery will be used to correct drooping and make it less drastic as Ms. Connell’s condition worsens. She intends to go further though, having told the Daily Mirror:  “But I won’t leave it at that – I want the full works, top to toe, including my boobs as they are heading south,” One certainly has to admire her spirit and her desire to attain the perfect body despite very difficult personal circumstances. Some people might think that there must be better things to spend the money on but, if it’s going to make her happy, then why shouldn’t she pursue the Demi Moore model of physical perfection.

Demi Moore herself was not born with the physical perfection that many fans now ogle over in magazines and in films. She is a huge fan of cosmetic surgery and has reportedly spent as much as £250,000 on different procedures, including breast augmentation. Well, when you’re dating a much younger man like Aston Kutcher, there must be a lot of pressure to stay as young and gravity-defying as possible. Whether or not it’s natural, it is exciting that Demi Moore’s beauty, and that of other celebrities, is inspiring women to go after the body of their dreams. Let us hope that such a quest brings happiness to Ms. Connell and that she enjoys the sadly too-brief time she has left.

Botox Banishes Back Pain

Botox is probably one of the most well-known cosmetic procedures around. It’s had widespread publicity because of the amount of celebrities who swear by it for tackling ageing skin or tightening up loose parts of their face.

More recently, Botox has also been shown to help problems such as excessive sweating and even hair loss and now news has reached us that yet another discovery has been made as to the benefits of Botox!

A survivor of the horrific Paddington Rail Crash of 1999 has spoken out about how Botox has changed her life. After the accident, Antonia Blake was left with chronic back pain which would often leave her confined to her bed for up to 12 hours a day.  However, thanks to new treatment she has now been able to put a decade of trauma and discomfort behind her and begin walking into a brand-new chapter of her life.  Treatments in London had failed to work but, when she moved to Devon, a new doctor was able to suggest the possible benefits of the non-invasive treatment to Antonia.

“Antonia had muscular skeletal pain with myofascial pain. This is pain arising within the muscles with an unknown cause,” commented Dr. Kathryn Davis. She went on further to comment on the pioneering treatment which was given to her patient: “Her treatment included the use of steroid injections to damp down the pain and Botox injections which gave the effect of localised paralysis.”  The treatment, and recovery, could not have come at a better time as now Ms. Blake will be able to walk down the aisle unaided at her upcoming wedding. This happy ending to the story, run by the Daily Mail, is sure to melt the faces of even the most Botox-addicted peopled around.

Sadly, the popularity of Botox has led industry-professionals to warn against shady operators which one may find on the internet.  Many unlicensed and unsafe practises now advertise over the web and the message seems to be that, if something looks too good to be true, then it probably is.  The bigger clinics up and down the U.K are still the safest place to get the treatments and you should also try and steer away from so-called “Botox Parties” as well. But, for every cautionary tale there is a heart-warming story like Antonia’s; one which proves the wonderful capacity cosmetic surgery has for changing lives.

Plastic Politicians

Many of us believe politicians to be fake and too manufactured; well now this sentiment may well be true as one Australian politician has decided to go under the knife in a bid to improve her confidence and, consequentially, improve her debating skills as well.

Logan City councillor Hanjal Ban has decided to undergo the dramatic and quite surprising procedure of having her legs extended by eight centimetres.  Before any of you start rushing out to undergo a similar procedure, take heed of this: surgeons will break her legs in four places and then stretching them by just one millimetre a day for nine months.

“A lot of young females have insecurities about their weight or their nose, mine was my height” commented Ms. Ban. Her insecurities are seemingly so great that they have been affecting her job performance and she will obviously be better placed to serve the public if she has more confidence to speak out about the issues which are affecting them.  Ms. Ban may not even be finished with cosmetic surgery after this dramatic procedure. She has commented that she may wish, at some point in the future, to begin to combat the signs of ageing and keep herself looking young. Anti-aging treatments, such as Botox or face-lifts, are much more common than leg lengthening procedures and many politicians all over the world have openly undergone such surgeries. One of the most famous of these people is Silvio Berlusconi who has been very open about his love of Botox; the controversial Italian premier is often in the news for his hiring of “babes” to the top political politicians but his actions are a good example, if a rather hyperbolised one, of the fact that looks really do matter in politics.

After this surgery it is hoped that Ms. Ban will be able to stand tall within the debating chamber and enhance her political power and her ability to advance the causes and concerns of her constituents. Leg-lengthening surgery should not be entered into lightly, nor should any surgery, and if you are considering this dramatic change to your body and life you should talk it through thoroughly with your GP and your potential surgeon.  We all want our politicians to be more real but, ironically, perhaps by undergoing plastic surgery, our elected officials may well improve their confidence and thus better serve the public.

Eyebrow-raising figures

Many industry analysts have been surprised that, despite the credit-crunch, the numbers of people having Botox treatments actually rose in 2008. The surgery has increased in popularity recently as more and more people want a younger look which can be achieved through a minimally invasive procedure. Now people work such long hours and struggle to find free time, Botox provides an excellent opportunity as it has relatively quick recovery times.

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons is the organisation who have made the claim about the rise in people taking up Botox after it had carried out research. There was a 5% increase across the board in people having non-invasive treatments and the most popular of these non-surgical options was found to be Botox. Perhaps the recent plethora of celebrities undergoing the treatment is what has spurred so many of us to start our own fight against the detrimental effects of the ageing process.

According to John Canady, the President of the ASPS, there is a double-fold reason for this increase in the numbers of people seeking Botox. The main reason behind the boom is the number of people who are becoming regulars to the treatment. Pleased with the effects of the first bout of injections, they are returning again and again to have the treatment and this is helping to bolster the Botox figures. The second wave of patients who are helping to strengthen the numbers of those seeking Botox are people who are undecided about surgery. People who wish to start combating the signs of ageing but don’t yet feel ready for more invasive procedures. These surgery-lite patients are discovering Botox provides excellent results without the prolonged recovery times needed after more strenuous facelifts.

It’s not just Botox which is being helped by the numbers of patients shying away from surgeries in favour of less invasive alternatives.  More than 1 million people chose to have chemical peels to rejuvenate their skin in 2008, whilst the numbers of people having hyaluronic acid fillers rose to a staggering 1.1 million.  If you’re lucky enough not have started ageing yet then Botox could still be of use to you.  The injections can be used to tackle excess sweating; the perfect solution to an embarrassing problem especially as we approach the summer months and you won’t want to be hiding behind layers. Get Botox to help banish your insecurities!
