Beware of Spanish “Doctors” Performing Breast Implants in the Presence of Pets

A Spanish man posing as a medical doctor has been arrested in Spain for performing cosmetic surgery procedures on human patients while using veterinarian instruments designed for use on animals.

The 63 year old man who resides in Barcelona was cited for practicing medicine without a license. His home office where he performed the procedures was filthy and contaminated by the presence of three dogs, a cat, and a parrot.

For the hefty price of 250 to 500 Euros (330.00 to 660.00 USD) the so called doctor used a veterinary tool to inject liquid silicone into his human patients. Performing both breast augmentation and buttock implants, the man is reported to have injected silicone directly into the patient’s bodies without using an implant. This procedure is dangerous and potentially life threatening. Authorities were tipped off to the man’s home medical practice when they received a complaint from a patient about a defective breast implant.

The arrest of this supposed doctor illustrates not only the popularity of cosmetic surgery, but the frustration patients have when considering the exorbitant costs of plastic surgery procedures. Patients desperate for the surgery were willing to have an invasive medical procedure done to them in a private citizen’s home without the benefit of sterile conditions and hospital care simply because it was offered to them at a fraction of the cost the procedure would cost in a reputable hospital.

As society becomes more comfortable with the concept of cosmetic surgery more and more disreputable opportunists will make themselves available to perform dangerous procedures at deflated prices. Though the fact that this man would do such a thing is reprehensible, what is more shocking is that people would go to him in the first place.

Bigger than Big

For many of us plastic surgery is a one-step solution to remedying a problem which has troubled us for a long time. Be it re-enhancing our faces or covering up a receding hair line, once we’ve had the procedure and are happy with the results we tend to be much happier and thus walk away from the world of cosmetic surgery with a confidence boost and a much better life. However, for some people, cosmetic surgery simply becomes life, nothing is ever good enough. Nothing is every sculpted, or young or big enough. Getting addicted to plastic and cosmetic surgery can be dangerous and yet some people are still going back time and time again to enhance what doesn’t really need enhancing in the first place.

Sheyla Hershey, who already has the dubious accolade of having the world’s largest breast implants, is, if recent reports are to be believed, considering enhancing her bust even more.  Her cup size currently stands at a mind-blowing 38KKK and, if more surgery is on the menu, it seems the world records are going to have to be ripped up and re-written for this ravishing woman who doesn’t seem to be able to say when enough is enough.

However, the surgery might not yet happen, as surgeons in America have said that they are unwilling to perform the surgery as there are too many risks involved in increasing the cup size even further. This has pushed Miss Hershey to consider surgery tourism as, according to some reports, plastic surgeons in Brazil may well be more open to performing the procedure. As well as being entertaining, this story also highlights the dangers of cosmetic surgery tourism. If even in America, a land where anything and everything can be enhanced or smoothed over, doctors aren’t wanting to perform the surgery then this is probably a pretty good indication that it is unsafe. Surgeries may well be cheaper abroad but the level of care you receive may well not be as high as it would be if you stayed at home.

It isn’t just her breasts which have been surgically enhanced; Miss Hershey has had a whopping 18 plastic surgeries which range widely from rhinoplasty to buttock enhancement. She is also not alone in seeking bigger breasts; breast augmentation procedures are constantly the most popular on both sides of the Atlantic. But this story does the beg the question: How big is too big?

New Breasts Bring New Wealth

Everybody knows the old saying that money can’t buy you happiness. Well, how about this one as an alternative. Money can buy you a dazzling pair of new breasts which, in turn, can bring you even more wealth and, perhaps, a little bit of anti-recession happiness as well!

Research has been carried out which suggests, perhaps quite obviously when you consider the idea logically, that having an enhanced bust-line can help in a person’s bid to become famous and can thus, in the long run, mean that they earn a lot more money.  Colin Stewart is the man who pointed out this trend, saying that the two women from the two wealthiest celebrity couples have both undergone plastic surgery. So is this a quantifiable trend? Or merely a healthy, pert coincidence?

The two women in question in this research were Jordan, aka Katie Price, who has recently split from her singer husband Peter Andre, and Victoria Beckham, style icon and worldwide celebrity supreme. Both these women are incredibly wealthy and incredibly beautiful but, does their success owe anything to their surgeries or is it rather down to having a shrewd business head? Jordan’s early glamour modelling career was certainly down to her enhanced figure but, in the case of Mrs. Beckham one does feel that success and wealth was more to do with her Spice Girl associations and footballing husband than her always debated plastic surgeries; indeed it is not really known what surgeries Victoria has had which, I guess, is testament to how natural they look (if indeed she has had any at all). Indeed Victoria Beckham is even said to have had her large breast implants removed in an effort to change her image; she is rich from being a constantly moving style icon, not necessarily for surgery alone.

Indeed, if this research were true then one would assume that there were many more rich people out there than is actually the case. Breast Augmentations are constantly the most requested most performed surgery on both sides of the Atlantic; around 300,000 were performed last year in the U.S alone. There is no doubt that an ample bust can “enhance” certain careers, such as glamour models, but it is not the only thing needed to succeed. Surgery is a helping hand but, as Katie Price has proved, a good business head and a good agent are also needed.

So much surgery so young

The Daily Mirror has reported on one young woman who has spent nearly £1000 on plastic surgery for every year she has been alive.  The twenty-four year old has spent a staggering £23,000 on plastic surgery and, apparently, she has no intention of stopping now.

Chloe Loughlin is a beauty therapist has had two boob-jobs, liposuction and Botox amongst other procedures; clearly her profession has taught her that physical perfection is important and Ms. Loughlin is clearly going to spend any amount of money possible to achieve her goals.

Chloe turned to surgery at a young age, 16, when her breasts shrunk; an unwanted side-effect of a diet she was on at the time. Such a dramatic change naturally left her feeling very insecure and she fought back, eventually increasing her cup size to a gravity-defying G.  Surgery is often used by people as a way of conquering low self-esteem and it often allows people to get on with the lives they want to live. Chloe’s story is proof that cosmetic surgery is not necessarily about changing who you are; it’s about increasing your levels of confidence so that the person you are has a chance to shine.

The Daily Mirror has quoted the young beauty-therapist as saying: “I used to be very insecure but now I’ve got so much confidence. I work hard, I’ve got the money to spend and what’s wrong with wanting to feel good about myself?” She also recalls the time after her first surgery: “I healed really quickly and I remember the first time I went out in a little top.” Chloe certainly hits on some good points here, if she has the money to spend and she knows it will increase her confidence, why shouldn’t she go under the knife and have the work done? Too many people get themselves into debt chasing the perfect celeb-inspired body but, if the money is there, then why not spend it on feeling fabulous?

Chloe is now planning her next procedures and, as long as the money is still there, will likely continue in her pursuit of physical perfection. One danger with plastic and cosmetic surgery is that, on very rare occasions, it can become addictive, but this is very rare and more often than not people who undergo vast amounts of surgeries are simply chasing the body they’ve always dreamed of.

Ring of Fire

There might have been a time when it was considered that women couldn’t be boxers, that it was a sport which should only be attempted by men.  Times have changed but people will be saddened to hear that one woman is now facing another bout of discrimination in her attempt to be recognised as a true sporting great in the ring.

The problem for Sarah Blewden is that she had breast augmentation surgery in 2003. Blewden had originally wanted to become a model and thought that her surgical enhancement would help her along her chosen career path now, ironically, it is holding her back.

The Amateur Boxing Association of England has banned Sarah from pursuing a professional career, saying that “international rules” made it illegal for women with implants to box as there was a high risk that breast tissue could become damaged.  However, Sarah has hit a stinging blow back to Tony Atwood, the ABAE chairman, saying that: “My surgeon said they make me no more vulnerable than any other woman. They are not enormous ones – they are in proportion.” She also pointed out that she didn’t have liquid implants, but rather had chose to enhance herself with gel ones and thus there would be no danger that they might burst in the ring.  Indeed if such an occurrence happened more frequently on the female amateur boxing circuit the sport might get many more fans than it currently does. Joking aside though, Blewden is upset and feels she is being unfairly discriminated against.

Breast augmentation surgery is continually the most popular procedure in the U.K and the number of women going under the knife to improve their bust is actually increasing year on year. This could well be, as was the case originally with Sarah, because many women feel that bigger breasts will help them achieve their dream careers or boost them into the lower echelons into that baffling phenomenon known as celebrity. Indeed, it is staggering to think, if they have banned Sarah, what the ABAE would make of model Sheyla Hershey who, after a staggering nine operations has size 38kkk breasts; those would be certain to have any opponent on the ropes but would probably not take too kindly to being squeezed into a lycra outfit! One thing is for certain, this battle is likely to go the whole 12 rounds and whoever emerges the winner will have fought hard for their victory.

What Kinds Of Non-surgical Procedures Are There?

When people think of cosmetic procedures the most common thing that will come to mind are surgical procedures such as facelifts, breasts augmentations and liposuction.

However, there are a variety of other cosmetic procedures that will change your appearance without having to turn to surgical options. Many of these will involve chemicals and lasers that may be used to enhance the appearance of the skin, as well as treatments such as Botulinum Toxins, which are used to rejuvenate the face.

These can range from dermal fillers, which are used to get rid of wrinkles to non-surgical breast enlargements using something such as Macrolane TM breast enhancement. At cosmetic surgery consultants there are a wide range of non surgical procedures that are outlined on the website. Some of them can be considered here.

Starting with Macrolane TM breast enhancement, this a form of non-surgical breast enhancement which is becoming popular because as it will increase the cup size of the breast without causing scarring. Macrolane is a gel that is made up of a hyaluronic acid called Stabilized, Non-Animal hyaluronic acid (NASHA), which is actually created naturally within the body.

There are also various facial fillers such as Juvederm, a form of dermal filler that aims to iron out wrinkles by injecting the Juvederm solution into the relevant area. As a facial filler it can be used as an alternative to surgical procedures such as facelifts. Likewise Restylane is also used to iron out wrinkles and to enhance the lips, and other lines that might appear on the face. It is a gel that is injected to add volume to the skin.

Laser treatments include procedures such as Fraxel Laser, which is another way in which wrinkles can be treated. Fraxel Laser treatment involves lasers being shined onto the skin to treat relevant areas whilst avoiding the surrounding areas. It requires an anaesthetic before the lasers produce microthermal zones within the skin; these are tiny columns that are created to rejuvenate the cells found in the tissue.

Beyond the ones mentioned here, there are many other non surgical procedures, which are outlined on various other parts of the website.

Something Borrowed, Something Boob

One of the major trends in the cosmetic industry over the last few years has been the startling rise in the number of brides-to-be deciding to undergo breast augmentations.

The change in fashion in bridal wear from heaps of material and ruffles to slinkier, more body-con numbers, has led many women to realise that their flaws can’t be hidden any longer. Thus, like a bouquet, many women are now choosing to throw away their love handles and their low self confidence!

Many women have a dream of what their wedding will be like, normally from a very young age and the perfect physical form is normally one very important part of this dream.  Breast Augmentation can make a bride confident that she will fill out her dress and will look confident and stunning as she walks down the aisle.   One bride-to-be, Jackie O’Neil, took herself from a 32AA to a 32C cup before her dream wedding in Cyprus. She told the Daily Mail:  “Before the operation, I had no bust at all. It had always made me very depressed. There were lots of clothes I just couldn’t wear, like small summer dresses. “When I went for a consultation, I was a nervous wreck. But it had totally changed my life and given me confidence I just never had.” Jackie’s story is testament to just how big a change to your life a breast augmentation could make. Her wedding might have been slightly deflated if she hadn’t chosen to have the surgery and yet she battled through her fears and came out the other side much more confident, and much more married!

With breast augmentation’s constantly being one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the world year on year, and with an estimated 6 billion pounds spent on wedding every year, it seems almost inevitable that eventually the two industries would collide in the form of bride’s boob jobs.  Like everything else to do with weddings, it seems that most women believe that the cost is ultimately worth it; they are probably right. It is a day which you will remember forever and, after the confetti has been swept up, the cake eaten and your drunk Auntie Mabel carried up to bed, you will be left with two things.  Firstly a partner to love and cherish, but also a new found confidence which will never divorce you.

MYA is Sky-High

Despite the difficult economic climate which we are all facing up to as we come towards the end of the first decade of the 21st Century, some companies are still managing to stay afloat and even improve their business.

One of these success stories can most certainly be seen as MYA, the Leeds-based cosmetic surgery company.  The company has reported a 25% increase in enquires for procedures at the beginning of the year compared with the year before.  The increase demand for MYA’s service seems to point to the fact that the cosmetic surgery industry may well turn out to be recession-proof; the 1224 enquiries received since the start of year seeming to back up this notion.

MYA stands for Make Yourself Amazing and there certainly seems to be an amazing story behind these figures posted in the most turbulent economic times seen since World War 2.  John Ryan, the company’s chairman, has said: “The recession is a real thing, but with cosmetic surgery people regard it as a priority in their lives and they will forego a new car or a holiday to get it done. People feel it gives them the boost they require in difficult times.” This seems to sum up the public’s reasoning; they might be feeling down about the economy but many people are choosing to alter their appearance in order to give themselves an extra lift or indeed to give themselves an advantage in the jobs market. Looking good now matters to young professionals more than it ever did in the past.

Breast Enlargements seem to be the most popular procedure with 62% of MYA’s patients opting for this option.  It is not just patient numbers that seem to prove that MYA is defying the recession. It recently created 12 new jobs in Leeds through the creation of a new patient booking system and it intends to spend £1million on a new advertising campaign which will also be the catalyst to the proposed opening of 6 new clinics throughout the U.K.  This story is only made the more remarkable when you consider MYA is only one company and represents only a fraction of the cosmetic surgery market. When all the industry was considered together it is likely that the figures would be even more amazing and be undeniable proof that the cosmetic surgery industry is not only going to survive the recession but is going to come out of it perkier, fresher and fabulous.

Try Before You Buy!

Many people want to try cosmetic surgery but are put off by the fact that they can’t be 100% sure of what the results will be.

This is all set to change with new technology that can show women what the results of their breast augmentation will look like before they go under the knife. This is likely to allay the fears of thousands of women who dream of having the procedure but don’t want to end up looking disfigured or scarred like some of the patients they may read about in the weekly magazines.

The SD imaging allows women to see the likely results, note not the guaranteed results, of the breast augmentation procedure which they will be undergoing.  This means that discussions about the desired shape, size or position of the new breasts do not now have to be mere abstracted conjecture; visual images can back up any claims made by the surgeon and reassure each patient, or forewarn them as the case may be, as to what the end result will be.

Since the boom in cosmetic surgery began over two decades ago, breast augmentations and reductions have long been at the top of the treatment ladder; everyone wants the perfect pair.  The enduring popularity of the so-called ‘boob job’ is down to the fact that women of all ages and sizes want them. Indeed, as Dr. Tiffany McCormack has pointed out everyone “from young women, who never fully developed to the extent that they wanted, to older mothers who just lost a lot of the breast tissue … after say breast-feeding or pregnancy,” are going under the knife.

This imaging technology is not the only advance in the breast augmentation arena to have been made in recent years. Saline implants have burst onto the scene as a really successful and viable alternative to silicone implants for some women. However, for other, the more old fashioned silicone implants are still more appropriate.  But whatever the actual implant, whether you want bigger or smaller breasts, whether you want a lift after pregnancy or whether you want more ascetically pleasing nipples, the new SD imaging system will help women of all ages and sizes see the results of their surgery without a cut being made; it will give them a chance, visually at least, to try before they buy. That should certainly give the industry a lift!

Expert Advice

With the plethora of celebrities going under the knife, and the plethora of magazines queuing up to tell us about it, we may all feel like we are experts in the ups and downs of cosmetic surgery. Well, we most certainly are not.

The increasing number of people turning towards cosmetic surgery has led the industry to plead that expert consultations, with a certified and qualified consultant, are essential before making any decision to go under the knife.

“People obviously have to consider all of the options, all of the implications before they undergo any kind of surgery,” commented Paul Collins, the editor of Looking Good, before going on to add: “Breast surgery can have a psychological impact as well as a physical one, so it is very important to make sure that you’re going into these things for the right reasons,”. Such psychological implications of surgery are issues which initial consultations will deal with.

Whilst the industry has been cleaned up immeasurably in recent years, there are still a small number of shady operators who look to take advantage of people who are low in self-confidence but high in available cash. Your consultant should not seem like he is trying to rush you into any decision or force any procedures onto you which you are unwilling to have. Rather, they should take you through each step of the procedure you have come in to talk about and suggest, if necessary, other complementary treatments or treatments which may be more suitable than the one you originally desired. It is a huge physical and mental step to take and expert consultations are a vital piece of equipment to take with you as you begin your daunting and exciting journey.

Breast Surgery is amongst the most popular procedure for people to seek consultations on and many women do not realise what a big change to their life and augmentation or a reduction may well make. Nearly 8500 breast augmentations were performed in the U.K alone last year and this figure represents 8500 women who will now have a completely different approach to life. Not only will their body have changed but their lifestyle and their own mind will have changed too. This is dramatic for anybody and consultations are thus a vital part of the surgical procedure not only to advice but also to warn; what might seem like the dream in a magazine might not turn out so well in reality.
