The Cosmetic Surgery Wish List: Hair Replacement?

Advancements in plastic surgery have allowed for the range of different procedures to become very extensive. There are procedures for breasts, thighs, stomachs, and calves. The number of different facial procedures alone is huge. There is even a procedure that can make wearing high heels pain free. A very high ranking procedure on the wish list for both men and women is hair replacement.

Harris Interactive recently performed a survey on behalf of RealSelf.com to put together a plastic surgery wish list for 2010. The survey included 2,227 adults of which 54 percent said that, if money was not considered, they would have plastic surgery. Of those who said they would have a procedure done, many would have hair replacement surgery (25 percent of women and 20 percent of men). People have often
looked for a way to arrest a receding hair line, thinning hair, or a bald spot. Many have tried those hair re-growth sprays, with no luck. Hair replacement procedures would be a great choice for someone who wants to get rid of that embarrassing feature.

There are many different surgical procedures available for hair replacement. Flap surgery has been successfully performed for over 20 years and is able to cover large areas of baldness. Tissue expansion is commonly used for reconstructive surgery to repair areas of substantial skin loss, but it is also now being used as a hair replacement technique with great success. One of the most common forms of hair replacement surgery is grafting. Where hair bearing skin is removed from a donor area and placed in the balding spots. There are also many promising procedures undergoing clinical trials. There are many things to consider when choosing what technique will be best for each person and a good surgeon will be able to help with that decision.

Some estimate that 20 percent of all women will suffer some sort of hair loss due to ageing, menopause, or illness. The hair loss is usually a gradual thinning all over the scalp as compared to men who are more likely to loose hair in localized areas. Alan Bauman is a board certified hair restoration surgeon and founder of Bauman Medical Group in Boca Raton Florida. He is a leader in hair replacement surgeries and said, “I’m not surprised that RealSelf.com’s new survey on cosmetic treatment preferences clearly showed there is a strong desire among both men and women for better hair through hair transplants.”

The study showed a great amount of interest in plastic surgical procedures by the people surveyed. People want to make themselves look good and feel confident. Hair replacement procedures can allow them to do just that.

Teen Angst

We all remember our teenage days; crippling self-doubt, being upset about our bodies, thinking that everybody else had the perfect look and that it was only us who had been afflicted by such bodily disfigurements. Obviously, as we get older, we realise that all teenagers are insecure and that, really, we aren’t as bad looking or as fat as our teenage self thought that we were. However, there is now a rising trend of teenagers considering going under the knife in a bid to correct what they see as their physical flaws. At an age when insecurity and self-doubt are rife, is it really the right option to consider surgical solutions to body hang-ups which will likely disappear along with spots as people get older?

Perhaps it isn’t huge news that teenagers dream about changing the way they look via plastic surgery but the startling statistic that 26% of teenage girls are actively thinking about having cosmetic surgery is extremely disturbing and it is clearly connected to body insecurities which are sadly rife for young women; nine out of ten young women who responded to the BBC survey said that they were unhappy with their body. Obviously, being unhappy with your body is as normal a part of being a teenager as mood-swings and regrettable fashion choices, but when this insecurity drives people into the surgeon’s table then it is surely a trend which needs to be addressed, and quickly.

At just 13, one respondent told the survey that when she was 16 she was going to go to the U.S in order to have a boob job there. “The things I don’t like about my body are my breasts…I spend almost 100 per cent of my life thinking about it,” she told the BBC. Hopefully, in three years time she will have grown to like her looks a bit more. The pressure on young girls to look a certain way seems to now come from all ends of society, from magazines, T.V and the fashion industry; girls are taught that there is only one way to look and anything else is a dangerous deviation from the norm.

At any age, it is women who top the tables of plastic surgery. 9 out of 10 of all cosmetic surgery procedures performed by members of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons were performed on women.

New Breasts Bring New Wealth

Everybody knows the old saying that money can’t buy you happiness. Well, how about this one as an alternative. Money can buy you a dazzling pair of new breasts which, in turn, can bring you even more wealth and, perhaps, a little bit of anti-recession happiness as well!

Research has been carried out which suggests, perhaps quite obviously when you consider the idea logically, that having an enhanced bust-line can help in a person’s bid to become famous and can thus, in the long run, mean that they earn a lot more money.  Colin Stewart is the man who pointed out this trend, saying that the two women from the two wealthiest celebrity couples have both undergone plastic surgery. So is this a quantifiable trend? Or merely a healthy, pert coincidence?

The two women in question in this research were Jordan, aka Katie Price, who has recently split from her singer husband Peter Andre, and Victoria Beckham, style icon and worldwide celebrity supreme. Both these women are incredibly wealthy and incredibly beautiful but, does their success owe anything to their surgeries or is it rather down to having a shrewd business head? Jordan’s early glamour modelling career was certainly down to her enhanced figure but, in the case of Mrs. Beckham one does feel that success and wealth was more to do with her Spice Girl associations and footballing husband than her always debated plastic surgeries; indeed it is not really known what surgeries Victoria has had which, I guess, is testament to how natural they look (if indeed she has had any at all). Indeed Victoria Beckham is even said to have had her large breast implants removed in an effort to change her image; she is rich from being a constantly moving style icon, not necessarily for surgery alone.

Indeed, if this research were true then one would assume that there were many more rich people out there than is actually the case. Breast Augmentations are constantly the most requested most performed surgery on both sides of the Atlantic; around 300,000 were performed last year in the U.S alone. There is no doubt that an ample bust can “enhance” certain careers, such as glamour models, but it is not the only thing needed to succeed. Surgery is a helping hand but, as Katie Price has proved, a good business head and a good agent are also needed.

Boost to Boob-job patients

It may not be setting the catwalks of Paris and Milan alight, but a new range of post-op underwear for women who have undergone breast operations is being welcomed by industry professionals and patients alike. Amoena is the company behind the new garments which it claims are infused with Vitamin E and Aloe in order to give a greater degree of comfort in the days following your procedure; you wouldn’t get that from Michael Kors!

They have already drawn approval from surgeons working within the industry, with one commenting that: “The zip-front closure allows professionals to easily fit the garment immediately following surgery and also allows for ease of wear while the patient recovers her range-of-motion” Whilst this idea does sound relatively simple, it is the first time a company has attempted to tackle the problems facing post-op women. It is indeed testament to the rising popularity of plastic surgery that a company has been able to expand out into such a specific market area.  Breast Augmentation remains the most popular plastic surgery both in the U.K and the U.S so there is certainly not a shortage of potential customers for this new line of underwear.

Advances in the procedures and technology surrounding breast augmentations and breast lifts, as well as a fall in prices and more credit options than were previously available, mean that more and more women have been choosing to undergo breast surgery. This move to heighten the comfort of the often long recovery from such operations will be applauded.  The first few weeks after any operation are vital as this is when the wounds heal and when one sees if the operation has been a success or not; the easy accessibility of these garments, the zip features etc, as well as the comfort they promise to bring can surely only help recovery.

Quick recovery is also now more essential than ever as more and more people want to hurry back to work so that they do not jeopardise their employability in these tight economic times. The new range of underwear looks to be giving a boost to those undergoing breast surgery and will certainly go down well within the industry. We will have to wait and see whether Ann Summers and La Senza take up rival bids to corner the plastic surgery market and whether rumours of a collaboration with Victoria Beckham turn out to be false.

Inccreasing Demand for Combination Breast Surgery

Experts reveal that more women who decide to choose plastic operations to enhance the appearance of their breasts, combine lifting and augmentation procedures.

As suggested by studies, breast lift and augmentation operations have been considered to be the most popular plastic surgery treatments in the US in the last decade.

Cosmetic surgery specialist Dr John Osborn claimed: “Breast lift and breast augmentation are two very different procedures that are performed with different goals in mind,”

“However, the benefits of the procedures are complementary, so combining a breast lift with a breast augmentation is often the best way to achieve the complete breast enhancement many women are looking for.”

Breast lifts aim at reshaping the breast and reducing sagging, while augmentation increases volume and size, reducing flatness and making the breast look fuller.

Specialists claim that if a patient seeks to improve the shape and cleavage, but does not want to enlarge the breasts, a breast lift procedure can be supplemented with implants.

Men Prefer Larger Breasts

A new research reports that nine out of ten single men in the UK prefer women with big breasts.

The survey, which was carried out by online dating website Parship.com, revealed that more than three quarters of British single guys would want to date a woman whose breast size is D or bigger. Moreover, according to Parship.com, just under half of women and men would not mind dating a person who has noticeable signs of having undergone plastic surgery in their appearance.

The results also showed that out of the 6,500 European men who were interviewed, Norwegian men proved to biggest fans of larger breast sizes, since only one per cent did not find them attractive.

Dr Nafsika Thalassis, who is a singles coach, commented: “Frequently, women say that they want to increase their breast size in order to improve their own self-confidence rather than because they want to attract men.”

Statistics reveals that just in the past decade the average bra size has increased from 34B to 34E.

What Size Breasts Do Women Really Want?

Why are a Large Number of Women Dissatisfied With Their Breasts?

According to a recent survey by Cosmopolitan Magazine, 95% of women are dissatisfied with their breast size. But how much of this is due to the image of women most people see in magazines and posters with airbrushed features that could never be attained naturally?

In a Press Release from website 24/7, Patricia Woloch thinks this is the case. She also believes that many women need to look beyond size in looking for improved breasts.

“Women think breast enhancement is the same as breast enlargement, but if you are considering breast enhancement surgery, it’s important not to get too caught up in mere size. There are many factors in considering what makes breasts attractive, and bigger is not always better.”

Breast enhancement surgery is a procedure that can change the appearance of the breasts beyond mere size – they can also reshape and uplift them and do not have to be in conjunction with breast augmentation surgery.

The press release goes on to refer to preferences men have with large breasts. It points out that though a lot of men do prefer larger breasts, the majority do not want breasts to be above a C cup. It shows that past a certain point, larger breast are actually considered less attractive, with women with these breasts thinking of breast reduction surgery instead.

“These women not only feel uncomfortable with unwanted attention from some men, but also often suffer from self-esteem problems as they feel they have a “babushka” type body. For these women, breast reduction, not enlargement, is the real breast enhancement.”

Earlier this month the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) announced that patient satisfaction for breast related procedures were at a high. Speaking at the Plastic Surgery 2008 conference in Chicago they pointed out that breast lift and the combination surgery of lift and augmentation have higher levels of success than previously thought and in fact rival the popularity of breast reduction and augmentation procedures. Previous studies have tended to focus mainly on the latter two procedures.

In their study that found that 99% of the 325 patients they talked to have an improved self esteem following breast surgery.
