Surge of Plastic Surgeries in UK

Over the past ten years plastic surgery has shed the shackles of negative opinion and emerged as a popular way to get the desirable body. Cosmetic surgery is no longer restricted to the rich and famous. Now they are common place throughout the masses around the world.

The UK is not exempt from this craze. In fact, according to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) , the overall number of plastic surgical procedures rose from 34,187 in 2008 to 36,482 in 2009. The public interest in cosmetic procedures is continuously growing in the UK, whereas the popularity is actually lessening in the US. There was a twelve percent decrease in cosmetic surgeries in the US from 2008-2009.

The number of women who underwent cosmetic procedures in 2009 was 32,859. Which is an increase of 5.4% over 2008. The highest change in procedures was breast reduction with in increase of 17%. As Cosmetic surgery becomes more mainstream, women are more confident in the procedures and thus are more willing to undergo plastic surgery.

There has also been a substantial rise in the number of men undergoing cosmetic surgery. The BAAPS reported that 3,623 men had plastic surgery in 2009, 21% more than in 2008. The area that increased the most for men was also breast reduction with an astounding increase of 80%. Increased media attention to plastic surgery is surely one of the reasons that more men have decided to undergo procedures. With more men seeing the positive outcomes of cosmetic surgery, the number of procedures will surely continue to rise.

Plastic surgery procedures have been improving over the years. New technology allows some procedures to be done with much less pain and the surgeries are becoming progressively faster. These technological advances have made plastic surgery less invasive and most of the recovery time is spent at home, instead of in the hospital. As these improvements are witnessed by more and more people the increase in the popularity of plastic surgery in the UK will persist.

Obamacare, Botox, and Boob Jobs- Proposed Cosmetic Surgery Tax a Bust

In the on going quest for health care reform in the United States President Obama’s latest healthcare proposal includes a five per cent tax on cosmetic surgeries.

The five to eight billion dollars a year the tax would earn would be funneled into the health care reform and used to pay for regular healthcare costs stimulated by the proposed national health care plan. This desperation measure was met by controversy on all sides as medical professionals and consumer advocates criticized the move on several different levels.

The primary concerns stated by the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery involve the confusion over taxing elective cosmetic surgeries over necessary reconstructive surgery. Who will decide which is a necessary surgery and which is merely vanity? Though the bill states that the tax will not apply to those with a physical deformity arising from, or directly relating to a congenital abnormality, personal injury resulting from an accident or trauma, or a disfiguring disease, Dr, Mitchell Roslin at Lenox Hospital in New York stated” “they’re trying to say they’re going to tax cosmetic , and not tax reconstructive surgery, but the way it’s written it’s leaving itself wide open.”

Many doctors believe that the confusion stemming from what is cosmetic and what is not will cause problems throughout the healthcare system. Another issue the doctors raise is that they do not want to be placed in the position of being tax collectors for the government on behalf of their patients. The bill calls for doctors to levy the tax and then send it on to the government, a job the doctors simply don’t want to do.

Additional concerns surrounding the tax involve the unfairness of it. Dr. Patrick McMenamin, the president of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery shared his concerns with the fact that 86 per cent of cosmetic surgery patients are middle class working women, the additional tax would be an unfair financial burden to them.

Though the tax has not yet passed into law, there is sure to be plenty of controversy surrounding future discussions of the issue as both doctors and potential patients spout their views of how Obamacare is doing them wrong.

Cellulite Underwear a Big Hit

You might remember a blog a little bit ago in which we reported on a new range of anti-cellulite underwear which was about to hit the market.

Well the results are back in from this new business venture and the results are looking very pert indeed! John Lewis has spoken out about the “unprecedented” demand for the underwear since the range was launched just a few short months ago. It seems that, if people can’t afford to undergo drastic cosmetic surgeries, then this elasticated solution might well be the next best thing.

Only serving the emphasise how bad some women feel about their bodies, the retail/department-store giant reported that the range of underwear sold out just half an hour after going on sale online (clearly everyone had been reading this blog).  The range then hit the stores and, in just a few hours, customers had cleaned out shelves and there were none of the products left anywhere.  It seems that women of all ages were out to buy the latest innovation in the battle against cellulite- proving that it is a national epidemic which cuts across the age strata. The Scala Bio-Fir garments reportedly use bio-crystals to heat the skin and cause the fat cells to melt away.  Despite the fact this might sound a little far-fetched, Helen Lewis, who works as the lingerine buyer for John Lewis has commented that: “Although we have always had confidence in this product, the unprecedented customer response has taken us a little bit by surprise. However more stock will be through in time.”

This will come as good news to the women who didn’t manage to get their hands on the product the first time around, or who are only just learning about the existence of the product now.  Previously, invasive cosmetic surgery was the only way to tackle cellulite and then new non-invasive laser treatments came along. Whilst the latter offered a much faster solution and a quicker recovery time, they still took time to recover from and thus these new undergarments, if they are proved to be successful, could well be the speedy solution of choice for the hectic 21st century lifestyle. If the products continue to do well then more and more companies will probably start doing similar products which can only be good news for consumers.  So it’s true, wearing the right underwear can boost firmness as well as your confidence!

Botox Boost

All of us feel down at one time or another and all of us have something we would like to change about our bodies.

For some people, however, this strive towards physical perfection becomes a constant obsession and many people become literally depressed by the way they look. It has now been suggested that cosmetic surgery could offer up a solution to this problem. Sid Gautam of DermaSkin.co.uk has commented: “Botox and dermal fillers show quick results and the change in visual appearance can provide an instant mental lift. People sometimes have hang-ups about their skin, and facial therapies can have dramatic results” More invasive surgeries have much longer recovery times and thus patients have to wait a lot longer to see results; these non-surgical alternatives offer a fast solution to a brand-new you!

Cosmetic surgery is not something which should be entered into lightly but it has long been known to have incredible results in terms of improving patients’ confidence.  It is not an easy solution by any means, having drastic surgery doesn’t just change your body, it changes your entire life as well and thus it can be an incredible strain mentally but, perhaps more importantly, it can be worth it in the long run.  For the more impatient amongst you, who cannot wait for the week it normally takes for Botox to take effect, there are now even faster solutions available. Dermal Fillers are the rising stars of the cosmetic surgery scene and injections of Restylane and Teosyal can have much quicker results than Botox can provide.

None of these non-surgical alternatives are permanent however and thus, if one is wanting a permanent boost to ones confidence and a way to drag oneself out of depression, a more invasive and complex procedure may be required. Recovery times are a lot longer and a lot harder to deal with but, in the long run, you will be left with a much more permanently fabulous and fearless you.  More and more people are now choosing to change their lives for the better and undergo cosmetic surgery; interestingly one of the leading reasons people seek treatment is because of divorce. Cosmetic surgery clearly offers a new start for people and also, if this new advice is to be believed, a way for people to combat the devastating effects of depression. Botox really could boost your life and take years of weight off your mind.

Seeing is believing

The eyes are very often the first thing we notice about another person and the first thing which another person might notice about us.  The eyes can offer the key to our beauty but can also age us dramatically, especially as modern-day life makes us more and more tired. This is probably why eyelid surgery and the removal of bags from beneath the eye are among the most popular cosmetic surgeries around.  More and more people are attempting to make themselves look younger by changing how people first see them.

Sometimes, however, such surgeries can leave the skin looking stretched or strained and often times it is easy to tell when someone has had such surgery. This is clearly not good for those who wish to keep their anti-aging techniques secret. Well help may finally be at hand from New Jersey plastic surgeon, Dr. Paul Parker.

Natural looking results are now said to be available by using the latest techniques and a high level of skill.  Blepharoplasty is a surgery which it is essential to get perfect, results either way will be highly visible and thus every effort must be made to achieve the highest level of aesthetic naturalness.   Parker says that he strives for an “un-operated” look but that this is hard because “millimetres matter” when it comes to a part of the body as small as the eye.  However, Parker thinks that his painstaking attention to detail and craft pays off; a youthful look is often achieved.

However, he has also warned that patients should be realistic when approaching this type of surgery.  Parker likes all his patients to be “on the same page”, to know what to expect and thus he shows his potential clients imaged photographs of what he believes the finished results will look like. This seems like a wonderful idea because, as well as allaying any fears a patient might have, it will also stave off their disappointment by preparing them to be realistic about what surgery can actually achieve for them. Eye surgery was the second most popular procedure amongst both men and women in the U.K last year and thus it is easy to see why doctors are keen to go to so much trouble to make sure the results look natural. We all want to stay looking young, we just don’t want to look like staying young is making us age with effort!
