Plastic Surgery Can Boost Self-Confidence

In today’s society there is a huge focus on the physical appearance and when it comes to ageing, the issue can start to become emotional. People often feel that they look older than they feel or don’t like the changes in their face and body and want to look younger. A while ago cosmetic surgery was something the rich and famous did, but now as cosmetic surgery becomes more assessable and “normal” more and more people in the general public are having procedures done.

Rise in cosmetic surgery

Even though there is a huge recession going on the actual number of people having cosmetic surgery has risen year on year by 5%. Popular surgical procedures include facelifts, eyelid surgery and nose surgery. Also less invasive treatments have also risen in popularity such as Botox treatment, fillers and chemical peels. There are many dental clinics and beauty salons which offer many of the less invasive treatments at an affordable price.

Natural enhancement

Both men and women are turning to surgery in order to enhance their natural state as surgery and treatments become more and more natural. This means that your average Joe, the banker, the teacher, nurses and shop workers are turning to face and body enhancements. Not everyone wants to look like a “Barbie doll” stereotype but may just want to correct a bump in the nose, or have a mini-facelift or perhaps remove that stubborn muffin top that will not shift. Cosmetic surgery for the masses must address that fact that everyday people want a natural look and a boost to their confidence rather than a frozen face or huge lips.

Many believe that these kinds of treatment offer a way for patients to self-improve and boost their self-esteem and confidence.

Treatments that many patients have for lines and wrinkles and signs of ageing are treatments such as Juvederm, Restylane and Botox that can be completed in a short period of time with natural results.

The Rising Popularity Of Dermal Fillers

If you have seen posters and billboards of actresses or models sporting glowing, fresh complexions you may have been inspired to read about facial aesthetics and anti-ageing treatments. In the last decade anti-ageing treatments have become incredibly popular, with more and more people looking to have treatment to recapture or preserve their young, radiant skin.

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are treatments used to tackle common signs of ageing, including crow’s feet, laughter and frown lines, and wrinkles around the nose. Fillers can also be used to plump and enhance the aesthetics of the lips and add volume to the skin. The procedure is quick, safe and simple: it simply involves injecting filler into problem areas of the face using fine needles. The injections are painless and the results become visible quickly with no need for recovery time.

Why are dermal fillers so popular?

One of the main reasons is that people are more conscious of their appearance than ever before and choosing to have treatment as a result. Dermal fillers help to tackle the signs of ageing and can make the skin look like the complexions seen in magazines and films. The fact is that most people are concerned when they start to notice changes in their skin – and dermal filler treatment is a safe, easy way of improving the look of the skin and creating an improvement in complexion.

Another reason dermal fillers have become popular is the increased availability of cosmetic treatments. If you type the words ‘dermal fillers’ into an online search engine, you will be provided with hundreds of results and links to local clinics and surgeries that offer such treatment. The price of treatment has also come down over the years in line with an increase in competition.

The simplicity of treatment is also a major draw for clients. The injections are painless and the procedure takes less than an hour. The effects of treatment are also short-tern, which means that clients do not have to commit to permanent results.

Botox Reduces Facial Scarring

A common treatment for wrinkles, Botox is now being used as an acne scar therapy. Botox, which is a drug that is a derivative of Botulism bacterium, is being shown to reduce the appearance of facial pits caused by acne. It does this by causing the muscles around the scars to relax.

According to Monash University’s Greg Goodman, “If it happens to be that… Botox can help to… relax that area so it doesn’t have so much stress on the existing scar tissue.” He also stated that Botox is generally used in conjunction with dermal fillers. These fillers are injected into a person’s skin after the Botox treatment to smooth the scar tissues.

Professor Goodman also found that while he was reviewing the use of Botox in the treatment of acne scars, that the Botox did indeed help to reduce the look of acne scars. He has published these findings in the Journal of Cutaneous Aesthetic Surgery.

Since Botox was introduced in 1999, it has been widely used to assist in the treatment of wrinkles. It has since been found to help lessen excessive sweating, help those afflicted with cerebral palsy to relieve their muscle spasms, and to aid chronic migraine sufferers with their pain. In 2009, cosmetic surgeons began to use Botox as an acne treatment after determining it could prevent excess oil and sebum production in skin pores. This excess build-up is a primary cause for the appearance of acne on your skin.

Botox works by obstructing the brains signals from the nervous system to the muscles, thus making them relax. This relaxation of the muscles is what reduces wrinkles and acne scarring. There are side effects of the drug, as with most any other. According to the Therapeutic Goods Administration, there have been 40 cases of unfavourable side effects in those who received the Botox treatment. Among those side effects, the most commonly reported were vomiting and fatigue. As with any cosmetic treatments, it is imperative that you discuss it at length with your doctor, to avoid complications and minimize the chances of adverse effects of treatment.

Always Be Ready For That Kiss

It doesn’t matter whether you’re young or old, women of all ages are lining up for the latest procedure in cosmetic surgery. Lip and cheek enhancements are becoming a very popular trend. For many getting their lips in perfect condition for a special event is becoming a necessity. Not only are the young looking for perfect lips but also older women wanting to look their best are seeking lip enhancement procedures.

Many cosmetic surgeons are seeing as many as 10 women a day in their clinics for lip enhancements. Most of the women coming in for procedure have a celebrity in mind they wish to look like but many also are requesting cheek enhancements. Cheek enhancements are seen by many as making their face look more beautiful and compliment their lips.

As the request for these procedures increase, many clinics and physicians are offering them as a one-time appointment, triggering even more interest in them. Clinics are also offering payment plans to pay for the procedures in monthly installments, making these procedures more affordable for those who may not have considered this as an option for them in the past.

One very popular time of year to get lip enhancements is the New Year. Often times this is when many people make resolutions and some want to make a change which alters their appearance. Some attribute the popularity of lip and cheek enhancement to making a person’s overall appearance look more beautiful without altering other parts of their body. The other reason New Year’s is a popular time of year to have lip enhancements done is because of the ever so important New Year’s kiss!

With the use of dermal fillers, lip enhancements are visible within one day. This is very popular for those wanting to make an impression quickly. It is highly recommended that when going for these procedures a licensed cosmetic professional is used and be sure the fillers used are US FDA approved. Some fillers can cause damage to the face and may be dangerous.

Lip enhancing procedures can have lasting effects anywhere from six months to two years depending on the type of filler that is used. Once the enhancement fades another procedure can be done. The prices of these procedures vary; so checking ahead with providers on their rates will give clients the best idea of how much they will spend for the various procedures.

That’s A Load of Botox – TV3′s Hot New Show

Cosmetic surgery has indeed come a long way from its days of being a thing only spoke of in whispers and performed under clandestine conditions. Today most people are not afraid to talk about their procedures and some are even willing to broadcast them. A new show in Ireland is doing just that.

The Cosmetic Surgery Show: What A Load of Botox, airing on TV3, is taking a thorough look at plastic surgery. Caroline Morahan, star of Off the Rails, and Dr. 90210′s Dr. Robert Rey will present the six part series. TV3 says, “This amazing multi-item magazine show will take an in depth look at cosmetic surgery in Ireland as we follow a different Irish person each week going through a different procedure whose result
will be revealed in studio.” This show will give people a really good look at what each procedure entails. Plastic surgery procedures such as tummy tucks, liposuction, breast augmentation, and face lifts will be shown.

The program is also featuring some non-surgical procedures. As stated by TV3, “the programme will feature non-invasive treatments, such as dermal fillers, being carried out live in studio. The series will get to the heart of many of the issues surrounding cosmetics in Ireland, featuring a studio discussion about an issue each week, as well as poling the public.” There are many issues and confusions shrouding cosmetic procedures and it is hoped that this series will be able to pull that shroud aside and get to the truth of the issues.

The series is not to be solely based on Ireland cosmetic surgery. It is also going to look at things around the word. As reported by TV3, “the show will take a look at many of the ground breaking procedures being practiced in other parts of the world such as the United States, which range from extraordinary to completely shocking, and as we ask whether these techniques used could be replicated in Ireland.”

This series should be able to open the eyes of many people, to the benefits of cosmetic surgeries. It will also give people a better understanding of what procedures are available and what these procedures could mean for them. The series will broadcast for six weeks beginning on Wednesday 13th January at 9pm on Irish TV3. Its result should be a new understanding of plastic surgery for many in society.

Chinese Officials Love Cosmetic Surgery Too

When people are constantly in the media, whether it be on TV or in pictures, they want to look their best. Government officials in the western world have availed themselves of cosmetic procedures to maintain those good looks on camera. Now China’s politicians have also decided to embrace the benefits of using plastic surgery.

The Telegraph reported that more then 500 officials of the Chinese government undergo plastic surgery procedures each year. Many of these procedures are performed at the Plastic Surgery Hospital at Beijing’s Union Medical College. A senior surgeon, named Chen Huanran, told Telegraph that China’s politicians want to stand out more, like their Western counterparts. He said, “They want to make sure they have the strong features that government officials are supposed to have.” According to Dr. Chen at least 200 procedures each year are performed on senior members of the government. He denied any claims that members of the current Politburo have had surgical procedures.

These officials may be willing to have procedures done , but they do not want it to be known. Dr. Chen said, “The officials are usually between 40 and 60 years old. They simply want to look younger, but they don’t want others to notice any changes.” They are very secretive about their procedures. Many of the surgeries are performed after hours when the hospital is not open. Some are even held in secret locations
and contact information is merely a telephone number, to create more security. They will use holidays or downtime throughout the day for the procedures.

Plastic surgery has become a huge industry in China and is growing at a rate of 20 percent each year. Dr. Chen told the Telegraph that lots of marketing companies actually give plastic surgery packages as gifts to government officials. It is believed that there are probably over a million cosmetic procedures performed in
China each year. The most popular procedure for officials is eyelid lifts followed closely by other facial reconstruction and rejuvenating enhancements. Botox and fillers for wrinkles have been thoroughly utilized by China’s elite.

The popularity of plastic surgery has indeed spread all over the world and people believe that to stay ahead they must employ this service. Many men and women have undergone procedures to maintain a youthful look and be more marketable in their careers. They believe that looking young is a good way to keep other’s confident of their abilities. China’s officials have obviously come to the same conclusion. They use cosmetic procedures to keep the image that they believe an important person
should have.

Dermal Fillers ‘Are Still Medical Procedures’

Experts have warned that although dermal fillers are categorized as non-surgical cosmetic procedures, it is still important to address only fully qualified and experienced surgeons to carry out the treatment.

Face to Face, a recent documentary shown by ITV, pointed out how important it is to find a fully qualified plastic surgeon after deciding to undergo a procedure involving dermal fillers.

As a rule, a medical doctor is considered qualified enough to perform cosmetic procedures after having spent six years in undergraduate and two years in postgraduate education as well as a further two years of plastic surgery experience, according to the British Association of Cosmetic Doctors (BACD).

Dr John Curran, who is a cosmetic doctor and the president of BACD, pointed out: “Without clear regulation it appears it is a ‘buyers beware’ market open to abuse. It is clear from the Face to Face documentary that the prescribing and administration of dermal fillers needs to be regulated.”

Dr Patrick Bowler confirmed how important it is that patients are only treated by a fully qualified medical doctor, dentist or nurse. He said: “Cosmetic dermatology must, no ifs or buts, be delivered in a safe medical environment by a competent, well trained healthcare professional who makes your interests as the patient his or her first concern. It may be cosmetic but it is still medicine.”

Smile Lines Eliminated by New Filler

It has been revealed that a new long-lasting temporary cosmetic filler aimed at getting rid of unwanted smile wrinkles has been created.

Experts claim that the new specifically designed product consists of non-allergenic pig collagen and cannot be used for injections to lips or eyelids.

NorthWest Cable News were told by surgeon Dr Gerald Bernstein: “It produces an immediate result. You put it in and people walk out and they’re done … I would say the likelihood of bruising is less than some of the other fillers.”

Facial fillers are generally designed to reduce wrinkles and unwanted lines that inevitably develop as part of the ageing process. Wrinkles are usually deeper in certain parts of the face, including smile lines around the mouth.

The American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery has published a response to a recent report by the US Food and Drug Administration about cosmetic filler safety, claiming that dermal filler are safe when they are administered correctly.

Effectiveness of Dermal Fillers for Treatment of Acne Scars Evaluated by Researchers

Are dermal fillers an effective treatment for acne scarring?

It has been announced that a new research will be investigating the effectiveness of ArteFill, a non-resorbable dermal filler, as a treatment aimed at improving the condition of skin affected by acne scars.

The product is originally intended to treat smile wrinkles, but some specialists claim it could work just as well for non-invasive cosmetic procedures for treatment of acne scars.

Florida-based dermatologist Dr James Spencer will be conducting the research by using the filler on patients suffering from acne scars and calling them back in after one month to evaluate the results of the treatment.

Dr Spencer, who is also a professor of clinical dermatology at the Mt Sinai School of Medicine, added that the patients will be monitored for another year and the analysed results will be published in a cosmetic surgery journal.

“I use temporary fillers in my practice to treat acne scars and other types of scars,” claimed Dr Spencer. “Unfortunately, temporary fillers necessitate expensive repeat injections so a permanent dermal filler would be desirable to correct a permanent scar. “I’m using ArteFill in my medical practice for smile lines and I can now document the use of ArteFill for acne and other facial scars,” he said. This method could be useful to a number of patients who suffer from acne scars.
