Unlike China and Hungary, Venezuela has not created a separate competition for the medically enhanced. Rather after years of fearing, it would creep into their coveted Miss Venezuela pageant it has. There are mix feelings about women being able to enter the competition with breast augmentations or nose reconstructions. Critics have taken the stance that having plastic surgery before the competition is unfair. However getting plastic surgery done in Venezuela is common. One source reports “plastic surgery is a common 18th birthday present.” Under immense pressure the women feel they need to do anything to get ahead of the game especially since the reining Miss Universe is from Venezuela, could this drive more women to go under the knife before entering the competition? As of today it is legal for women to have plastic surgery and participate in the Miss Venezuela pageant, will this change? Only time will tell.
