Vaginal Reconstructive Surgery
Vaginal reconstructive surgery is becoming more popular with many women. The surgery is being done for numerous reasons, either because of child birth, medical reasons, aging, hormonal loss or congenital problems. Vaginal reconstructive surgery is a cosmetic procedure, however it has been found to help with anatomical problems as well.
However, not every women is able to have vaginal reconstructive surgery done. A woman must have the muscles in this area stretched over time for different reasons, such as child birth.
Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation, also called LVR, is based off a different procedure called vaginoplasty. Vaginoplasty is used to help women who have weak vaginal muscles, which causes incontinence, and this is due from numerous child births. Incontinence will the leave the vagina with loose skin, which many times very visible. Women who have loose skin in this area, may experience incontinence every time they cough or use their muscles in this area. Using LVR to correct these problems is very non-invasive.

Previously the correction of incontinence was done by other surgeries, such as defect directed repair, posterior fascial replacement, posterior colporrhaphy, abdominal surgeries to correct the tearing and transanal repairs. However, vaginal reconstructive surgery uses lasers that are very non-invasive and removes excess skin and tightens the vagina muscles. There is far less bleeding, pain, trauma and discomfort for the woman. Usually when the procedure is done on women it is because they have had children, however women without children may still be considered when other extenuating circumstances have occurred, such as incest and rape, inherited traits, strain on the area due to chronic coughs or pressure from obesity.
For this procedure, an incision is made and the doctor uses a laser to tighten the muscles. It is an out patient procedure. The patient is awake, but has been numbed and does not feel anything. The length of time the procedure takes will vary from patient to patient, depending on the extent of damage and repair needed to be done. Once the procedure is completed there is some pain and swelling that may occur. However, the healing is done with medications and women are able to return to their daily routines and activities very shorty, usually within 2 weeks. This is a much speedier recovery, compared to 3 months with the standard repair surgery. The cost can vary between RM5,000 and upwards of RM200,000.
