Gastric Balloon

Dramatic weight loss, without going under the knife!.

A non-surgical procedure for those who have struggled to get to a healthy weight using other methods

What is a gastric balloon?

A deflated gastric balloon is attached to a soft tube which is inserted through your mouth, down your throat and into your stomach; this is a procedure known as endoscopy. An endoscopic camera ensures that the balloon is correctly positioned and the whole procedure can take as little as 10-20 minutes

Could I be a suitable candidate for a gastric balloon?

This is a procedure for those who don’t have life-threatening obesity problems but would still like to bring their weight under control; a sensible, calorie-controlled and healthy diet will need to be followed after the procedure. Patients should have a BMI which is under 35 and it is perhaps for those who don’t want to take the plunge of a gastric band straightaway. This procedure is easily reversible by the simple puncturing and removing of the balloon.

Can both men and women have this procedure?

Yes. Over 20% of men in the U.K are obese, whilst the figure is 25% for women. Both sexes can thus benefit from this helping hand on the way to a slimmer, more streamline and healthier lifestyle.

Will I really look and feel better?

We live in a very image-conscious society where we can find ourselves chastised and ostracised for even the smallest physical imperfections. Some of these can be hidden but weight is something which is visible to everyone, especially if it’s something which you struggle to keep under control. The gastric balloon is not an easy way to get away with eating what you want but, if you’re willing to make dietary and lifestyle changes as well, a gastric balloon can be the helping hand which many of us need to start re-evaluating how we see ourselves and how we want others to see us. The average person loses around 5 stone in six months following the procedure; so results can be dramatic! After these six months it is removed and your new, more fabulous, life can begin.
