Mr. Tim Burge was raised in Bristol in the United Kingdom where he attended Colston’s School and later went on to attend medical school at Bristol University. He qualified with an MB ChB in 1981 and promptly began his term as house physician and house surgeon in Taunton, southwest of Bristol.

Mr. Burge later enlisted in the Army and served as Regimental Medical Officer to the Scots Guards as well as the Cheshire Regiment in Hong Kong.

In 1985, Mr. Burge decided to specialize in surgery and trained in various military hospitals across the UK, and completed additional training in Nepal and Hong Kong. In 1986, Mr. Burge began his work in the field of plastic surgery, and by 1988 he became a Fellow of the College of Surgeons of England (FRCS). 

During the first Gulf War, Mr. Burge practiced in Saudi Arabia with the Army Burn Team. Following his service there, he went on to complete additional training in general surgery with the National Health Service (NHS) in Basingstoke and in Edinburgh. Following his training, Mr. Burge began to study plastic surgery for his sub-specialization.

At St. John’s Hospital in Livingston and at Edinburgh’s Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Mr. Burge served as a Plastic Surgery Registrar. A Senior Registrar promotion at Queen Mary’s University Hospital in London was soon to follow. In 1996, Mr. Burge completed the Intercollegiate Fellowship Exam in Plastic Surgery (FRCS(Plast)).   He then worked at the UA Army burn unit in Texas.

Mr Burge returned to the UK as a Lieutenant Colonel and and in 1996 was appointed as Consultant Plastic Surgeon at the Royal Hospital Haslar in Portsmouth, where he cared for the military and their families.  He also served in Bosnia and Kuwait.

In 2001, after leaving the Army, Mr. Burge accepted his current position at Frenchay Hospital in his hometown of Bristol, where he serves as a burns and plastic surgery Consultant.

Mr. Burge currently specializes in treating children and adults who have been victims of severe burns and may require reconstruction or other plastic surgery. He is also involved with trauma patients and skin cancer. Mr. Burge has continued to work in aesthetic surgery and has taken on a variety of medico-legal cases. His research has been published in various medical journals and Mr. Burge has spoken before many university groups and medical societies.

Currently, Mr. Burge has shared his knowledge by assuming a leading role in training the plastic surgeons of tomorrow. Mr. Burge is listed on the General Medical Council Specialist Register (2702249) and he has been named a member of the following professional medical associations;
